Hello Autumn....

 Made this little table over a year ago for the market...it didn't sell but that's fine by me!  :)

Although the colors don't really work in my house I sure have had fun drawing on it!!!

Chalkboard Table and Chairs

Well I finished those chairs I picked up to go with the chalkboard table...

If you recall I painted the table last year. (you can find it here).  But it never sold...So I decided to get rid of the pink and paint some chairs to match...hoping it might sell for a playroom.

The chairs had a heavy coat of varnish...or something like that...so I painted them with a coat of oil based primmer first.

Below is the before picture ( along with some other goodies I found).

I must say chairs are a pain in the rear to paint!!  But I persevered and was happy with the end results.

I added turquoise stripes to match the table and then stenciled on the words Play and Have Fun on one and Dream, Create and Draw on the other...Okay to be honest I can't really remember what  I wrote on that one for sure and my pictures aren't very good...but you get the idea...I hope!

I also painted the back of the chairs with chalkboard.....

Here they are at the market.

I wish I had gotten better pics but I finished them the day before we had to set up so I am amazed that I took any at all!  Do you want to know the funniest thing is??  The chairs sold but not the table...What the heck??? Guess I'll be looking for more chairs!  :)

Awesome Chalkboard Coffee Table

 OK...This is by far the BEST, MOST AWESOME piece of furniture I have done!!!

The only reason I can give it up is the colors don't go at all in my house.  :)

When I saw it at the Good Will I knew I had to have it!!!

I loved the shape of it (especially the legs), it has a Mid-Century Modern feel.

The top had some burn marks on it, but other than that it was in good shape and made of solid wood.

So after my lovely husband sanded it for me I painted it with several coats  BEHR Ultra in "Full Moon." 

I then taped off the area for the chalkboard and painted it with Krylon Chalkboard paint....It felt to white, so I added jade("Winter Surf") to the inside of the legs...better

But it was still missing something...I then added "Hollyhock Pink" around the edge (a Martha Stewart color, also from Home Depot). 

I loved the way the jade was just a little surprise on the inside of the legs but it didn't show well and it was a great color !!!  Sooo.....

I added two jade stripes to the top....Perfect! 

Here it is sitting in front of my couch... 

My son's girl friend wanted it for her bed room but then decided she needed a smaller version for her dorm room next year.  :)

Give Thanks and Celebrate Autumn

I promised to give you guys a peek at what's new in my space at Viking Village...Halloween is just about over... so I added this vintage frame reminding us to "Give Thanks".

It's priced a little higher than my others...basically because I had to pay more for it...

Hopefully someone else will see the same value in it that I did.  :)

Just another look at my Autumn / Halloween mantel... that's forever changing.

I plan on putting Christmas and winter out this week (If I can find the time).

Chalkboard: Just Doodle...It's fun!

Just a quick post to share a Chalkboard that I just finished...It's headed down to my booth in Poulsbo today.

I am really loving the gold frame!!  It' the second one I've done like this and is definitely more contemporary than my others it would be perfect for a wedding or maybe a formal dinning room!

I found the frame at a garage sale...They're harder to find than you might think...At the GW the run about $14.00!??  You know me I'm not about to pay that much!  :)

Anyway it had a picture of some lady in the grass...nothing special...so I simply sprayed over with Krylon Chalkboard paint....Done!!  :)

Speaking of my little space...Here's a couple of pictures of it:

Do you like the typewriter?  I have four of them now...I hate getting rid of them but who needs 4 typewriters??  Anyway I took pictures and plan on doing a post about them soon...They are lovely!!!  :)

It's not very big and to be honest I'm not making enough, to be worth my while, but it's only been 2 months.  My daughter says I need to find a different place to sell (a little more up-scale)...I agree but I haven't been able to find it yet!

From Thirftshop Mirror to Chalkboard Diva DIY

Happy first day of Spring everyone!!!  I hope yours is filled with sunshine!!  Here, in my little town of Poulsbo the weather has been FAR from spring like...We have had snow on and off for the last two weeks...YIKES!! 

Oh well...When the weather is crummy the thrifty go shopping.  :)

And shopping I did....I have been looking for a mirror to transform into a chalkboard ever since last summer (Summer-Ahhh...I can almost feel the sun on my skin...) anyway I finally came across the perfect one at the GW for only $6.00...(Happy Dance).

It was painted this BRIGHT RED...and had flower stickers on it (which came off quite easily) and had the most lovely shape.  So....

The first thing I did was cover the mirror with paper and painted the wood with KRYLON's Dual Paint plus Primer in Ivory (my new favorite spray paint...I used it on my bowling balls too...but that's another post :)

I gave it 3 or 4 light coats...can't remember for sure but you know the drill...several light coats is better than one thick one.

I let it dry for a about a week (because I never got back to it)...

Carefully  taped the freshly painted wood and sprayed on the chalkboard paint...again doing several light coats.

I sanded the edges to let the red show through and...

Added the metal hose clamp to hold the jars for the chalk.....Which is really cool because you can change it's size to fit different

containers with a simple screw driver.  :)

 I used two different size jelly jars to hold my Chalk and my Chalk Pens.

I also added two cute little bird hooks that I got at World Market for only $1.50 each....What a deal!!!

The chalk markers are fun and bright but they need to be washed off and they do leave a mark, even after erased.

I haven't deiced where to hang it yet...or if I will sell it down at the space I'm considering leasing..(Shh don't tell anyone...I haven't deiced for sure yet...but it does sound like fun and you know I LOVE retail!!).
